Master the Art of Storytelling

We all love hearing stories. A good story can change our perspective and can make us learn new things in life. Storytelling is the most powerful tool that can help you put ideas and create awareness in the world.

“There’s always room for a story that can transport people to another place.” –J.K. Rowling

You must learn how to craft your story. You can not master the art of story telling overnight, it takes a lot of time and practice to become a pro at it. It might be difficult for some people, especially introverts to master the art of storytelling. But nothing is impossible, right? You just have to make sure to keep some key points in mind when telling a story, and the audience is all yours.

Let’s just dive right into the points that will help you become better at story telling. Here are some key points that will help you to kick start your learning of storytelling.

1. Know Your Audience: Before you start to speak, you should take at least 5 minutes- or more and get to know your audience. You must know who you are targeting to and make sure that your story is appropriate and relatable for the audience.

2.Set a Theme: Setting a theme for your story is the most important part when you are telling a story. If you want to capture your audience’s attention fully, you should set a scene that will provide your audience with a context.

3.Engage Your Audience:We all have that favourite book or an interesting story that we get lost into, not caring about the time and space. That is exactly what you have to do while telling your story. Engage your audience in a way that they start to enjoy and experience it themselves. You can also share images and videos to make your content more engaging.

4.Be Expressive: Expression speaks a thousand words. That is correct, you have to be very expressive when telling your story to the audience. Your story can be funny, sad, emotional or a mixture of these. People are going to love listening to you that way.

5.Hold their Interest:There is a reason why people always search for movies that have a good plot or get lost in a book that has an amazing storyline. While telling your story, you must set a scene and be descriptive about the climactic moments.

6.Avoid Unimportant Details:

Don’t ever get into the details that are not important in the story or doesn’t play a part in what you are telling them. These sidebars will surely distract your audience and can make them lose interest in your story.

7.Enjoy your Own Story:Don’t forget to be funny! If you convey your story in a serious tone, your audience is more likely to get bored and lose interest in what you are telling. Instead, crack some jokes, make people laugh and keep setting expectations for people. Even while telling, you must enjoy your own story and in this way, you will get people to listen to you and you will get an immersive experience for your audience.

8. Keep it short:You don’t want the listeners to get bored and eventually end up scrolling through their Instagram while you talk. Keep it short and interesting, this way your audience will enjoy your story and will be engaged with you the whole time. Otherwise, people might just think that you are rambling which is very ineffective.

9. Have a Goal in Mind:Your story has to be actionable. No matter how good and interesting your story is, it will mean nothing if you don’t have a goal for it. Be a storyteller that can empower the people and motivates them to take action. Always make a grand conclusion of your story and tell people what you want them to do. This can really impact their lives in a good way.

Storytelling is a powerful tool. It surely takes a lot of practice to get good at it. But once you achieve the art of storytelling, there is no going back.
